Name Pronunciation

Since the subject of pronunciation came up on the JoeCustoms message board, I thought I'd weigh in on the subject since I could finally put my B.A. in linguistics to use. While I speak neither Japanese nor Russian, I've studied the phonetics of both and offer these attempts to represent the "proper" pronunciation of the following G.I. Joe names:
Arashikage
Brekhov
Stormavik
Daina
Schrage
Horrorshow I guess is supposed to be pronounced as English, but there's an intriguing theory that the name arose as an anglicisation of the Russian word for "good", which is xorosho.
From what little I know of Chinese phonetics and Pinyin orthography, T'Jbang and T'Ginzu so stunningly don't fit in that I'm at a complete loss for what the designers were going for. Further research is in order...




Wave 6

in a Parallel Universe

Most of us collectors and customisers have been pretty devastated by Hasbro's announcement to completely change the style of G.I. Joe figures for Wave 6 in 2002. However, even in a parallel universe where Hasbro was not changing their construction, things may not be that much better. Considering the heavy reuse of parts and ungainly names, I suspect that we would just see ridiculous figures like...

Double Fast Blast Viper



I and, I have now been informed, some other internet pioneers, have brought the Lazy Bastard Custom into the cyber-age with virtual customs like the one above. I pasted Fast Blast Viper's head onto Double Blast's body and altered its skin tone pixel by pixel. Admittedly, a virtual custom is even more useless as a plaything than my Scale Model Statues, but why would you want a Double Fast Blast Viper in your army? He'd probably come double packaged with a repainted Raptor.
